TESTE DI CACTUS – FUORISALONE2019 – 8-14 Aprile
Raccolta di vasi, di piante, di teste, di storie d’amore, di arte e di vita.
Una collezione di vasi antropomorfi che prende vita dalle “Teste di Moro” della tradizione siciliana e che racconta una storia d’amore, gelosia e vendetta.
La peculiare foggia di questi vasi che raffigurano il volto di un moro e di una giovane fanciulla siciliana, deriva da una singolare leggenda.
Secondo la leggenda, intorno all’anno 1000, nel pieno della dominazione dei Mori in Sicilia, una bellissima fanciulla siciliana e un giovane moro si innamorarono perdutamente.
Il giovane celava tuttavia un segreto: moglie e figli lo attendevano difatti in Oriente, in quella terra nella quale egli doveva fare presto ritorno.
Quando la fanciulla apprese tale verità, colta da un’ira gelosa, pazza e funesta, tagliò la testa del suo amato e la pose sul balcone trasformandola in un vaso per il basilico.
Ogni giorno le lacrime della giovane bagnavano la pianta, che cresceva divenendo sempre più florida e rigogliosa. I vicini, pervasi dal profumo del basilico e guardando con invidia la pianta si fecero realizzare vasi in terracotta che riproponevano le stesse fattezze dell’amante Moro.
Da questa storia d’amore eterno e vendicativo nasce un oggetto straordinario che da più di mille anni viene prodotto, reinterpretato e riproposto da artisti e designer come non si fosse mai stanchi della sua forma, della sua poesia e del suo significato.

A series of anthropomorphic vases inspired by the Sicilian tradition of “Moor’s head”.
The legend of the Moorish Head goes back in the XI century, during the Moors domination in Sicily and as in most legends, is once again Cupid’s fault (or credit).
One day, a beautiful and honorable young girl living in Palermo, was taking care of plants and flowers in the balcony of her house as she was used to. Suddenly, a Moor merchant who was passing by, fell in love with the beautiful girl who immediately returned his love.
They started having a love story until when she discovered he already had a wife and children waiting for him in his native land. She went suddenly crazy of jealousy and one night, while he was sleeping she thought of a way to make him stay with her forever!
She therefore cut off his head and cleverly decided to use it as a vase to grow her beautiful basil plant.
People walking down her balcony started looking at her flourishing plant of basil and became jealous of how bloomed her plants were, so they began to forge colourful clay heads pots wishing to have the same magic green thumb.
Today there are several varieties of ceramic heads inspired by this passionate and eternal love story. Designers from Caltagirone created classic but also POP heads, and during this Fuorisalone we would like to introduce you to this traditional story that is portrayed since more than a millennium.
